Sedation Dentistry

Comfortable, stress-free dental care for anxious patients. Safe sedation options help you relax completely during treatment, with little to no memory of the procedure.

Relax Through Your Dental Visit

If you feel anxious about dental procedures, you're not alone—and you don't have to face treatment with fear. Sedation dentistry at Smile Care Dental Group offers a safe, controlled way to help you feel completely relaxed and at ease during your appointment.

Using proven sedation techniques, we gently ease you into a calm state before your procedure begins. This approach eliminates discomfort, pain, and preoperative anxiety. Most patients feel more at ease afterward, too, because they have little or no memory of the moment-to-moment details of their treatment.

Whether you have general dental anxiety, fear of needles, a strong gag reflex, or simply need extensive work done in one visit, sedation dentistry can transform your experience.

Sedation vs. Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia numbs the treatment area with an injection, eliminating pain—but it doesn't address anxiety or help you relax. Sedation dentistry goes further: we administer calming medication before your procedure, so both your stress and discomfort are managed. You'll still receive local anesthesia to keep you pain-free, but you'll feel relaxed and comfortable throughout.

Your Sedation Options

We tailor your sedation to your needs, medical history, and the complexity of your procedure. Options include:

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

A mild sedative inhaled through a small mask over your nose. The effects are nearly immediate, and they wear off quickly once your treatment is complete. You'll be able to drive yourself home.

Oral Conscious Sedation

You'll take a prescribed medication before your appointment. By the time you arrive, you'll feel fully relaxed and calm. You'll need someone to drive you to and from our office.

IV Sedation

Administered directly into a vein for a deeper level of sedation, typically used for longer or more complex procedures. We'll give you detailed pre-visit instructions, and you'll need an escort home.

For patients requiring comprehensive treatment or complex oral surgery, general anesthesia in a hospital setting may be recommended.

A Comfortable Experience, Start to Finish

Our team will walk you through every step, answer all your questions, and help you choose the sedation method that's right for you. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities.

Common questions
What is sedation dentistry?+

Sedation dentistry uses safe, controlled medications to help patients with dental anxiety or fear feel completely relaxed during treatment. It eliminates discomfort, pain, and preoperative stress, and most patients have little or no memory of the procedure itself.

What is the difference between local anesthesia and dental sedation?+

Local anesthesia numbs the treatment area so you don't feel pain, but it doesn't reduce anxiety. Sedation dentistry adds calming medication to help you relax before and during your procedure. Together, they address both the physical and emotional aspects of dental care.

What are the different types of dental sedation?+

We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild relaxation, oral conscious sedation taken before your visit for moderate calming, and IV sedation for deeper sedation during complex procedures. The best option depends on your anxiety level, medical history, and the treatment you're receiving.
